The most common kind of loop installation is to insert several windings of insulated wire in a
groove, which has been cut into asphalt or concrete. The supply line (up to 10m) and the loop
parts are made of one piece of wire. The loop- as well as the supply line wire has to be perma-
nently protected against humidity. A proved measure would be to insulate the loop and the supply
line with a suitable sealing compound. The corners of the loop groove are cut bevelled, in order to
avoid excessive mechanical stress of the loop wire in the corners, which might lead to a parting of
the cable or insulation. The twisted supply line should also be installed in a cut groove, which
should be lead in bevelled grooves of 90°.
If the supply line is longer than 10 meters, outside telephone cable has to be used. In this case,
you have to install a piece of twisted feed line (max. 5 m) in a groove over the shortest distance
between the ground antenna and the verge and place a connector box for the junction to the out-
side telephone cable. After having completed the installation successfully, please fill the groove
with the twisted cable as well as the connector box with a suitable sealing compound. The overall
length of the supply line (twisted cable plus outside telephone cable) must not exceed 50 meters.
In case that prefabricated loops are used, the supply lines are either lead separately to the
evaluation station for each loop part, or together after a local combination (ill. 2) in direct vicinity to
the loops. The separated, twisted supply lines must not be longer than 5 meters (outside telephone
cable: 25 m), whereas the combined, twisted supply line has a maximum possible length of 10
meters (outside telephone cable: 50m) (see also:
10.3.3. Antenna supply line
).
The combination of the loops has to be electrically insulated (compound-filled connector box –
