6. Rotate the key back to the 12:00 position to
remove it from the lock. Do not force the key
(in either direction). ‘Jiggle’ the lock bar and
shackle slightly if needed to align the lock
teeth and shackle to release the key.
7. To remove the lock, insert the key and turn it
to the 3:00 position. Pull the shackle up out
of the lock bar. Open the coupler latch and
release the lock bar.
8. Regularly apply a light weight oil or spray-
type lithium grease to the lock cylinder and
latch rods. We recommend a few drops of
good quality air-tool oil.
Instructions for Use
1. To install the FORTRESS®, insert the key and
rotate it clockwise to the 3:00 (1/4 turn) posi-
tion to release the shackle from the lock bar.
2. Open the coupler latch on the trailer.
3. Place the lock bar into the coupler with the
detent ball up inside the coupler socket, and
the lock facing forward.
4. Close the coupler latch.
5. Slide the shackle down through the lock bar
until both lock bar and shackle are tight to
the trailer coupler. For highest security, the
top bend of the shackle should be pointing
