PERIPHERAL COMMUNICATIONS
7.4 PROBING
The probe must be connected between pins 7 and 8 of the connector X5. Machine
parameter P003 must be set to indicate which flank (up or down) of the probe signal
is going to be used.
The appendix at the end of this manual shows the diagrams of the recommended probe
connections.
Once the communications parameters have been set. Follow these steps to work with
a probe.

Press
and select the “COMMUNICATIONS” option.

Select the “TOUCH-PROBE OPERATION” option.
Every time the DRO receives a probe signal (pulse) indicating that the probe has
touched the part, the DRO will:

Send out to the computer or peripheral device via the RS232C serial port the
position values displayed in large characters on the screen and corresponding to
the touch point.
This value will be given in work units, absolute/incremental, radius/diameters,
DEG/DMS, mm/inches, etc.

If the general machine parameter P004 is set to “STOPPED”, the DRO will freeze
the display at the X,Y,Z position value corresponding to the touch point for as
long as the probe keeps touching the part (probe signal being sent out).
The DRO, however, will not loose count of any axis move while the display is
frozen.
When the probe no longer touches the part, the DRO will return to showing the
current tool position.
Press EXIT to cancel the transmission of position values and return to the display of
the “COMMUNICATIONS” menu.
The format used in the transmission is:
1st axis - 2nd axis - 3rd axis - 4th axis - End-of-line character.
At least one blank space must be used as field separator.
The value of each axis must be preceded by its associated name (X, Y, Z
A
).
The position values can consist of the sign (-), up to 5 digits (4 in inches) to the
left of decimal point, the decimal point and up to 4 decimals (5 in inches).
Example: X -12345.1234, AC 1.2300, Z -12.0000 in mm.
The end-of-line character will be the one indicated in machine parameter P010.
