Tool I/ O
Tool I/O can be connected to the D-Sub connector on the back of the machine. The tool I/O
connector allows the Vortex to interface with inputs and outputs that are specific to each tool.
This is useful if an additional part latch, vacuum, or part marking cylinder is required or if part
presence sensors are required. The Control Mode on the system setup screen must be set to
Local Opto or Local LC when using tool I/O.
Wiring
Refer to Chapter 3 – Unpacking and Installation for wiring diagrams explaining the appropriate
connections to the tool I/O.
Machine Setup
Table 7-1 explains the use of each tool I/O signal.

For each input used go to the Setup-Tool
screen and check the box for that input
(Figure 7-1).
• The machine will not cycle until a checked
input is on (on = +24VDC, active high).
• Output 2 (Vacuum) is automatically
controlled by the Vortex. In Vacuum mode it
will turn on when the load upper button is
pressed and in Vac Pickup mode it will turn
on when the head is completely down. It
will turn off again when the cycle is
complete.
