After you have configured the library, you can put it into operation. If you
operate your library in SCSI mode, your library application controls which
cartridges are moved to and from the tape drive(s). If you operate the library
in one of the sequential modes (see
), the library automatically
processes the cartridges in sequential order. In both cases, your backup
application controls backup and restore jobs in the tape drive(s).
Before beginning operation, always make sure that:
The robot does not contain a cartridge.
The cartridge magazines are installed.
The library’s door is closed.
The library is in the proper control mode. SCSI is the standard operating
mode (see
You can monitor library operation by viewing the operator panel or by using
the library’s Remote Management utility (see
). The Status screen
(see
) provides continuous updates on the activities of the library and
tape drive(s).
During normal operation, you do not need to intervene in library activities.
However, you may occasionally need to perform the following tasks,
described in this chapter.
Change the robot control mode
Open the door to access cartridge magazines or tape drive(s)
Remove and add cartridges through the entry/exit port
Operate the library in sequential mode
Clean the tape drive(s)
Reset the library and tape drive(s)
Eject a cartridge
Perform hardware exercises
Store cartridges that you have removed from the library
