52 Asphalt Operations
Circulating in the Spray Bar
Refer to Figure 70a or 70b for the following proce-
dures.
1. If heating, park the Distributor broadside to the
wind.
2. Set the truck parking brake.
3. The engine must be running and the optional
transmission PTO must be engaged.
4. Turn the MASTER SPRAY switch OFF.
5. Turn the cab POWER switch ON and turn the rear
EMERGENCY STOP ON.
6. Set the desired spray width with the One Foot
switches and Taper switches.
a. The spray bar should always be warmed
before moving it in order to obtain the
desired spray width.
b. Lowering the wings allow for increased spray
width selections.
7. Set the Operation Mode to BAR CIRC on page 1
of the touchscreen Home page.

. At the rear of the distributor, set or confirm the
following:
• Return valve open
• Bar suck back valve(s) closed
• Master hand spray valve closed
• Transfer line suck back valve closed
• Transfer line valve closed
• Flush valve closed
• Load and transfer line caps are in place
and secured
9. Set pump control to AUTO. You may also select
MANUAL if desired.
• If in AUTO, set the desired application rate.

10. Press the green START PUMP button.
a. If AUTO, the asphalt pump will start spinning
at the auto pump rate.
b. If MANUAL, adjust pump speed by increas-
ing the Pump Speed slider.
11. If no other operation will be performed, go to
the next step. Otherwise
,
go to the instructions for
the desired operation.

2. When finished, press the red STOP PUMP button
to stop the asphalt pump.
13. Flush the pump if necessary before quitting.
NOTE: The pump can be stopped and the automatic
tank valve can be closed immediately at any time
during operation by turning the EMERGENCY STOP
switch OFF.
Circulate product long enough to ensure removal of
all air from the bar and to heat the spray bar valves
sufficiently.
For better material circulation, in the bar ends, the
wings should be lowered. Before moving the bar,
circulate some hot material through the bar. This al-
lows the bar to warm up and also extends the life of
the bar seals and O-rings.
