Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve
Troubleshooting Thermal Expansion
If a water heater is installed in a closed water supply system, such as one having a backflow preventer in the cold water
supply line then a thermal expansion tank is required, contact the water supplier or local plumbing inspector on how to
control this situation.
The following 3/4", maximum 150psi valves are approved by CSA for use with GU100 :
- Cash Acme NCLX-5L
The temperature-pressure relief valve should be manually opened once a year.
No one should be in front of or around the outlet of the temperature-pressure relief valve discharge line when in use.
If after manually opening the valve and it fails to completely reset and continues to release water, immediately close
the cold water inlet to the water heater, follow the draining instructions, and replace the temperature-pressure relief
valve with a new one. The discharge capacity must be at least 100,000 BTU/HR for GU100.
