Preparing plastic powder using the components of the IPCM P plus
Prepare refreshed powder using the mixing & qualification station
The plastic powder is dosed, mixed, conditioned and finally discharged using the
mixing & qualification station (MQS).
New powder from a new powder bin and recycled powder from a multibox are dosed
into the mixing bin via a switchable powder pump on the docking station for the
MQS. The MQS controller calculates the required dosing amounts and monitors the
process.
The mixing process comprises a combination of fluidisation and stirring. After the
stirring time has elapsed, a sample can be taken from the mixture and checked using
suitable methods, e.g. MVR measurement (Melt Volume Rate), outside the MQS. It is
possible to subsequently correct the mixture ratio without the need to discharge the
power mixture.
You will find the mixture ratio recommended by EOS for the plastic powder in the
application instructions
for the related material.
Necessary activities for the preparation of the plastic powder:
➢
Set mixture parameters on the MQS controller:
- Transport new powder and recycled powder to the mixing bin
- Set type and quantity for the powder mixture
- Set mixture ratio
- Activate sampling if necessary
- Set quantity for the powder discharge
➢
Mix powder
➢
Transport refreshed powder to the machine.
A further EOS accessory for plastic powder preparation is the Sieving
machine P 3. You will find further information on this accessory in the
Components IPCM EOSINT P
manual, section

.
Risk of process problems!
Mixing the plastic powder may cause electrostatic charging. The plastic
powder can therefore not be used for the building process immediately,
instead it must be stored in the multibox for at least 24 hours after mixing.
Keep to the storage duration to dissipate the electrostatic charging of the
powder produced by mixing.
