FRONT PANEL AND CONTROLS
This section gives a brief description of the features of the front panel and a couple of additional controls.
2.1
Display
The display is a 16-character LCD dot matrix display. It can display any English alphabet, numbers and a
number of special symbols. The display is used to show the measured value and also for communication
with the operator during data entry.
2.2
Low Batt indicator
A red lamp marked ‘Low Batt’ to the left of the display window lights up to indicate that the remaining
battery power is less than approximately 15 percent of its rated capacity.
2.3
ON / OFF key
An ON/OFF is provided on the lower right-hand side of the 16-key keypad. This key is used to turn on or
off power to the indicator. If the indicator is in off condition it turns the indicator ON and if the indicator is
in on condition it turns the indicator OFF.
2.4
Keypad
A 16 key weather sealed membrane keypad is provided for data entry, setup, storage, recall and other
functions. Most of the keys have more than one function. The most used functions are marked on the
keys. However, functions which are sparingly used are not marked to reduce clutter. The function of each
key is briefly described below.
Number keys 0…9
- Keys marked with numbers 0 to 9 are used to enter the numbers 0 through 9 in the
data entry mode whenever the indicator is expecting a number to be entered. All these keys also have
other functions which may or may not be marked on the keys. The other functions which are marked are
described below.
VOLTS / 0
- Used to select ‘VOLTS’ mode display when taking measurements or recalling results.
DATE / 4
- Used to show and set ‘Date’ while in measurement mode.
PREV / 5
- In ‘recall’ mode it fetches the previous stored reading of the transducer which has been
selected for recall.
NEXT / 6
- In ‘recall’ mode it fetches the next stored reading of the transducer which has been selected
for recall.
PRINT / 7
- In measurement mode it will start the process of sending formatted data to a serial printer
connected to the RS-232C serial communications port of the indicator.
SEND / 8
- In measurement mode it will start the process of uploading data to a host computer connected
to the RS-232C serial communications port of the indicator.
RECALL / 9
- Used to recall previously stored readings.
The function of the other keys are as follows

- In number entry mode it is used to enter the decimal point. In measurement mode it changes
the display to ‘engineering units’ display mode.
STORE / EXP
- In number entry mode it is used to enter the exponent of a floating-point number. In
measurement mode it stores the currently displayed reading in the internal memory
TIME / SETUP
- In measurement mode it is used to display and set the time of day. With a special power
