7. Mount the inner rod in the crane hook before the crane hook is mounted onto the
outer barrel.
8. The tightening torque on the 4 bolts (31) for the crane hook is 25 N m.
9. The tightening torque for the inner or rod nut (21) is 20 N m.
10. Use a threaded sealant (Loctite
™
or a similar product) when installing the pressure
gauge and bleed valve.
Service valve dis-assembly and cleaning
Prerequisites
A complete assembly drawing of the mechanical retriever tool can be found in
, which contains the part numbers referred to parenthetically in the
following procedure.
Maintenance of the service valve is determined by the environment in the process pipe.
The presence of sand or other deposits require frequent cleaning of the valve, perhaps as
often as after each retrieval or installation operation, while when used with clean liquids,
daily cleaning might be sufficient.
After each use, check if the valve can easily be opened or closed. If the rotation of the ball
is obstructed by dirt, it must be cleaned. For quick cleaning, compressed air can be blown
inside the valve (around the ball) to remove all deposits. Then lubricate the ball with oil,
and check that it rotates properly before next use. If this is not successful, the valve must
be disassembled and serviced as described below.
Before storage of the service valve, it should be disassembled and cleaned properly, as
described in the following instructions
Procedure
1. Remove the handle (32).
2. Loosen the eight bolts (9), and remove the end section (37).
3. Rotate the stem of the upper ball section (35) to the “closed” position, and then
remove the ball (36) and the ball seat (2).
4. Remove the circlip (washer wave spring).
5. Remove the stop ring (29).
6. Push the stem (35) into the main body upper section (6).
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the 2nd ball in main body service valve (5).
8. If the main seals (31) need to be replaced, then unscrew the seal carriers (30).
9. Unscrew and remove the bleed valve (17).
10. Unscrew both by-pass valve housings (18) to remove the by-pass valves.
11. If the seals on the by-pass valve stem need to be replaced, disassemble the by-pass
valve as follows:
a) Loosen the set screw (10).
b) Remove the by-pass valve handle (23).
c) Unscrew the by-pass valve gland (21).
d) Unscrew the by-pass valve stem (24) from the housing (18).
