Monitoring and tracing
Monitoring is used to observe real-time values for FST timers, integer values in the Misc registers,
and strings and values in the Message registers. Monitoring is also used to access Trace mode.
You can monitor only one FST at a time.
11.6.1
Monitor mode
To monitor an FST:
1. Connect to the Model 3711.
2. Open the FST Editor window.
3. Ensure that the FST to be monitored is running.
4. To monitor the first FST, open the FST 1 panel, then click the
Monitor
button. To monitor the
second FST, open the FST 2 panel, then click the
Monitor
button.
The FST is automatically loaded into the workspace, and the FST Monitor window is displayed, as
shown in Figure 11-5. In this window, the FST steps are displayed, and the current contents of FST
registers and other storage are also displayed, updated automatically as the FST executes. The storage
areas are listed and defined in Table 11-3.
As shown in Figure 11-5, you can use the controls in the Monitor window to pause and resume
monitoring, and to start and stop Trace mode.

• 0 – FST not running
• 1 – FST running
• 2 – Restart from beginning
• 5 – FST has shut down due to invalid point reference
• 8 – Initiate Trace mode
• 9 – Model 3711 is processing
IP
Instruction Pointer. Indicates the location in Model 3711
memory of the next function to be executed. One storage
location is used for each byte that stores the function.
Size
Number of bytes reserved for the FST program.
BRK
Delay, in millisecond intervals, between the execution of
successive FST functions.
RR
Current contents of the Result Register.
R1 – 10
Current contents of the floating-point registers.
Timer 1 – 4
Current contents of the timer.
Msg 1 – 2
Current contents of the Mesg fields.
Msg Data
Current data associated with a message.
Misc 1 – 4
Current contents of the integer registers.
