Configuring the Director
Enabling Telnet
Select this option from the Configure menu to enable or disable Telnet
access to the director. Telnet access allows users at remote
workstations to use the command line interface (CLI) or perform
other tasks on the director. (Refer to Appendix E for more
information about the CLI.)
If the Enable Telnet box is checked, Telnet access is enabled. Clicking
the box adds/removes a checkmark.
By default, ED-64Ms are configured to reside on the private Ethernet LAN
inside the Connectrix cabinet. The CLI can be used from the Connectrix
service processor if Connectrix Manager fails to run properly. However, if the
CLI is to be used remotely, the ED-64M must be configured to reside on a
public LAN. This configuration is not recommended unless it is needed for
special remote SNMP management. If you do configure the ED-64M to reside
on a public LAN and you do not plan to use the CLI interface, you should
disable it in Connectrix Manager. If you do plan to use the CLI, change the
default passwords in order to prevent others from logging in to the director
via the CLI. (This also applies to the Embedded Web Server. Refer to Enabling
the Embedded Web Server on page 5-55.)
