Appendix A:Differences from the MAX-400
MAX-400 to MAX-430 Replacements
When replacing a MAX-400 with a MAX-430, please be aware of the changes listed below:
Power Connector
The power connector on the MAX-430 is now a barrier strip. The pins are arranged in the same
order as the MAX-400. Two additional terminals are provided for 24V power. These terminals
are useful when logic power must stay ON while motor power is OFF.
Foldback
The MAX-430 design eliminates the foldback feature of the MAX-400. When average current is
exceeded for the permitted time period in the MAX-430, the amplifier shuts down and the
Overcurrent fault LED turns on.
Motor Current Output
The MCO output (P2, pin 7) on the MAX-430 is scaled so that 10 Volts equals 30 Amperes of
motor current. The MAX-400 scaled 1.5 Volts at 30 Amperes. The higher Voltage results in more
accurate current readings.
Multi-Axis Power Wiring
Multiple MAX-430s may be connected to the same secondary or different secondaries of a trans-
former without modification. If more than one MAX-400 was connected to the same secondary
of a transformer, the customer was required to remove the cover on the MAX-400s and to cut a
trace to isolate the ground between each of the units.
