Agitators
Description of the agitator
The contents of the disposable bag are stirred by means of two impellers. The impeller
assembly is a built-in feature of the disposable bag. The agitation is provided by a motor.
Two agitator motors are present on XDUO 2500 Mixer. They can be synchronized or in-
dividually driven. The motors can be controlled from the following locations:

From local control software
•
From Wonderware user interface (for FlexFactory connected mixers)
Each agitator motor is rigidly attached to the bottom of the mixer vessel. A protective
plastic collar surrounds the agitator drive head and prevents immediate contact between
the impeller baseplate and the agitator drive head. When the protective collar is lowered
during the installation of the disposable bag, the impeller baseplate magnetically engages
with the agitator drive head and is ready for operation. The protective collar is raised
and lowered manually, using a telescopic handle.
Function of the agitator
There are no openings in the disposable bag for agitation access. Impeller baseplates
are welded into the bottom of the disposable bag. The impeller baseplate is connected
to the agitator motor via magnetic coupling. The magnetic field holds the impeller
baseplate to the agitator drive head and transfers the rotational energy from the agitator
motor to the impeller inside the disposable bag.
The impeller inside the disposable bag comprises a 90 mm long impeller shaft and four
blades.
