Scan
Scan is a collection of software components that allow you to scan documents from the printer glass (platen) or
through the automatic document feeder (ADF) on the printer and send the scanned images to specific destinations.
Scan consists of the following:
•
Fiery Remote Scan includes the TWAIN plug-in module. Fiery Remote Scan allows you to retrieve a scan from a
printer.
•
Scan to Mailbox allows you to send the scan to a mailbox on the Fiery ES, from where it can be retrieved. You
can also save the scan to any folder on the network or on the client computer.
•
WebTools Docs allows you to retrieve scanned jobs from mailboxes on the Fiery ES.
User Box feature on the printer
The User Box feature on the printer allows you to scan documents from the printer glass or through the printer’s
automatic document feeder (ADF) and save the scanned images to mailboxes on the printer hard disk.
After scanning a document to a User Box on the printer, you can send the scans to specific destinations, such as a
local drive, and also retrieve them using WebTools Mailbox and Fiery Remote Scan. To save data to a User Box,
create the box, and then scan the data to the specified box. Each user can have access to multiple boxes: Public,
Personal, and Group boxes.
Public User Boxes are accessible to everyone, Personal User Boxes are assigned to a single user, and Group User
Boxes can be used by the users who are logged in as members of that User Box group account.
Different levels of authentication are supported on the printer. User authentication may be enabled to access the
printer, as well as mailboxes, depending on the type of mailbox and the environment. Public boxes are accessible in
any scenario, with user authentication turned on or off. For Personal boxes, user authentication is turned on, and
then users create their own personal boxes by entering a box/name and an optional password. For Group boxes, the
account track feature must be enabled on the printer, and a password and user name are required to access each box.
To find out what levels of user authentication have been set on the printer, ask your system administrator.
The printer supports the following file formats: PDF, Compact PDF, TIFF, JPEG, XPS, and Compact XPS. The
default file type for scanning is PDF, which is supported in Command WorkStation. If a job is scanned in a format
that is not supported in Command WorkStation, it is still possible to print the file using the Fiery ES printer driver or
third party application printer driver.
The printer also supports producing multiple page files or single page files for all file formats supported, except for
JPEG, which supports only single page files. To scan a multiple-page job in JPEG format, you must scan each page
separately.
See
on page 25 for an overview of scanning to a User Box. More information about setting up
User Boxes on the printer is provided in the manual that accompanies your printer.
