6.2 Before starting the pump
Carry out pre-checks before starting the pump.
1.
Inspect the power supply cable prior to use, ensuring it is in good condition.
2.
Check that the pump oil level is between the MAX and MIN marks on the bezel of
the oil level sight glass; if it is not, refer to
Check the oil level on page 65
3.
Turn the mode selector fully clockwise to select High Vacuum mode or fully
anticlockwise to select High Throughput mode , as required (refer to
4.
Turn the gas ballast control to position ‘0’, ‘I’ or ‘II’, as required (refer to
).
5.
Switch on the electrical supply to the pump.
6.
To achieve ultimate vacuum, to pump condensable vapours or to decontaminate
the pump oil, refer to the procedures in
Achieving ultimate vacuum on page 61
,
Pumping condensable vapours on page 62
Decontaminate the oil on page 66
respectively. Otherwise, open the vacuum system isolation valve.
6.3 Operation with the pump controller
6.3.1 Start the pump using the pump controller
Press the start button on the pump controller panel to start the pump.
6.3.2 Using the pump controller to activate standby mode
Standby mode enables the pump to be run at a reduced speed to improve the service
life of the pump. If the pump is running below or above standby speed it will accelerate
or decelerate until standby speed is reached.
Press the standby button to select standby mode. The pump will initially run at factory
default standby speed (83% of full speed). The speed can be adjusted using the increase
and decrease standby speed buttons. The maximum standby speed is 100% of the
default run speed and the minimum standby speed is 67% of the default run speed. A
single short push will change the speed by 1% of the default run speed, holding the
button will change the speed by 1%/sec. Once adjusted, the pump will return to this new
user-defined speed each time standby speed is selected.
Note:
Vacuum performance will be reduced when operating at standby speed.
6.3.3 Stop the pump using the pump controller
Press the stop button on the pump controller panel to stop the pump.
6.4 Operation with parallel control and monitoring
6.4.1 Start the pump with parallel control
In parallel control the pump will accelerate to full operating speed when started.
