Problems when using the PCR-A30

Operating system becomes unstable
•
Operation becomes unstable when the computer is started up with the PCR-A30 already connected
Please start up your computer with the PCR-A30 disconnected, and then connect the PCR-A30. On a computer that
uses a USB keyboard, starting up the computer with the PCR-A30 already connected may cause operation to become
unstable. In this case, start up the computer with the PCR-A30 disconnected, and then connect the PCR-A30.

Can’t hear sound from the computer
•
Do the recording and playback sampling frequencies match?
Set the recording and playback sampling frequencies so they match.
•
The PCR-A30’s Sampling frequency select switch may have been set to “96 kHz REC”.
With this setting, only recording is possible. Sound from the computer cannot be played back.
•
In your playback software, have you specified the audio data output destination?
For some software, such as Cool Edit Pro LE, you will need to specify the
PCR-A30
as the output destination for
audio data. For details on the procedure for making settings, refer to the owner’s manual for your software.
•
Are you running multiple applications?
If multiple applications are running simultaneously, an error message may appear. If this occurs, click
[OK]
and
exit the other applications.
Even if an application window is closed, it is still running if it appears in the taskbar. Be sure to exit unneeded
applications displayed.
•
Was the driver installed correctly?
In order for you to play back audio data via the PCR-A30, the driver must be installed. For installation and
settings, refer to
“Getting Connected and Installing Drivers”

Is your computer in Suspend or Sleep mode?
If so, get your computer to resume normal operation, then exit all applications that are using the PCR-A30. Next,
turn the PCR-A30’s power off, then switch it on again.
•
Did you plug in the USB cable, or unplug it while an application was running?
Exit all applications that are using the PCR-A30, and exit all applications that are using the PCR-A30, and re-
connect the PCR-A30.
•
Have you selected “Game compatible device” or “Voice modem” as the output for the audio track?
If game compatible device or voice modem (the actual name will depend on the computer you are using) is selected
for the audio track of your software, the audio track may not play back. Do not select these devices as the port.

Volume from a device connected to the input jacks is too low
•
Are you using a cable that has a built-in resistor?
Use a cable without a built-in resistor (e.g., Roland PCS series).
•
Is the Input volume raised appropriately?
Turn the knob clockwise to adjust the volume.

Sound is destorted
Under certain conditions, you may find that the performance of the PCR-A30’s internal speakers does not meet
your expectations. For example, you may experience a poorer audio S/N ratio or increased distortion.
If such problems occur, take the following measures:
Lower the master volume / Turn off the internal speakers (p. 85) (use headphones)/ Connect the AC adaptor
and set the power switch to the DC position.
