6.3 STANDARDS OF EFFICTIVE SPECIFIC ACTIVITY OF NORM

6.3.1
Effective specific activity of naturally occurring radioactive materials
in construction and mineral raw materials.
6.3.1.1
The value of А
eff
(effective specific activity of naturally occurring
radioactive materials) in construction and mineral raw materials that is used for all
types of construction without restrictions (I class) should not exceed 370 Bq∙kg
-1
.
6.3.1.2
Construction materials, where А
eff
is above 370 Bq∙kg
-1
, but less than
or equal to 740 Bq∙kg
-1
(class II), can be used:
- for industrial buildings;
- for construction of roads.
6.3.1.3
Construction materials, where А
eff
is above 740 Bq∙kg
-1
, but less than
or equal to 1 350 Bq∙kg
-1
(class III), can be used as follows:
within settlements:
- for construction of underground structures, covered with a layer of soil
more than 0.5 m thick, where long stay of people is not envisaged;
outside the settlements:
- for construction of roads;
- for construction of dams;
- for construction of other industrial facilities, where people stay for a small
amount of time.
6.3.1.4 The А
eff
value should not exceed 3700 Bq∙kg
-1
for materials that
have aesthetic value and are used as follows:
- for interior and exterior finishing of public facilities, with the exception of
childcare institutions;
- for exterior finishing of semi-basement parts of dwelling houses.
For interior furnishing of dwelling rooms and furnishing of childcare
institutions such materials can be used on the basis of separate regulations,
approved by the State Sanitary Inspection of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

values provided above belong to the average values within the
reservoir, area, dumping, or a batch of material used.
