The MS-30 reference monitor  system  is the result

of comprehensive R&D  effort  to develop  a compact
reference standard system for audio production in the digital
age. The development effort utilized extensive subjective
listening evaluations  and  proprietary  objective  instrument
testing procedures. The results are flat response not  only  on
axis but over the entire listening area, wide dynamic range,
and unsurpassed low distortion (both harmonic and time
related transient types).

The significance of  true power  response  accuracy

and  dynamic accuracy in a reference audio monitor has
become increasingly important with modern strides for
improved audio quality in  transmission,  recording  and
production. The EAW MS-30 is the first compact  monitor
system to offer significant improvements  in these  two
critical areas in 20 years. Benefits from the use of  the MS-30
include quality assurance  of  frequency, independent stereo
imaging, transient distortion, harmonic distortion, and tonal
balance.

Construction

The Eastern Acoustic Works MS-30 is constructed with
painstaking attention to detail because reliability is so  critical
in demanding professional applications.  The  many  extra steps
that EAW takes in the design  and  construction of the MS-30
provide considerable improvement  in performance  and
consistency. To maintain  that level of performance in every
MS-30 each unit is hand assembled and tested by  dedicated
craftsmen for absolute consistency.

High Frequency Assembly

The MS-30  offers  fiat power response due to the

careful design of  the 26 mm  soft  dome's  crosssection
contouring. The  complex  driver  mounting assembly  and
baffle termination prevent  any reradiated high frequency
energy from  creating time related off  axis response
deviations. Excellent transient capabili

ties are provided by the 18,000  gauss-in-the-gap  ferrite
magnetic circuit. Magnetic  dampening fluid  serves as a heat
sink for improved  power  handling while also lowering
distortion by dampening  out  cavity  resonances.  Increased
thermal capability in addition to  uniformly smooth and well
dispersed response results in high frequencies  with
exceptional reliability and sonic quality.

Low Frequency Assembly

Our 210 mm  (8") bass driver utilizes technology

which is years ahead of our competition,  allowing for
unmatched response accuracy and inaudible  harmonic and
transient  overhang distortion. From the proprietary
poly-laminated

cone to the patented dynamic dampening

voice coil this driver represents true "state of  the  art"
performance. Through the application of  this advanced
technology we can eliminate cone Bell-mode resonances  and
distortion typical of all other vented  systems  when level  is
increased. The latest developments in voice coil adhesives
and former construction permit high power handling for  long
term reliability. The 33 liter (1.2 ft2  )  box  is  optimally  vented
for maximally flat response, providing good driver control
and excellent power handling below 100 Hz.

Frequency Dividing Network

The crossover is the heart of any  monitor  system

and the MS-30 utilizes the most  complex  crossover  available
in any professional studio monitor. Design  objectives  were
to eliminate even the  slightest abnormalities in both  the axial
and power  response of the system. All design parameters
were mathematically calculated, and then continuously
adjusted during extensive listening and instrumentation testing.
The resulting network is based on  a third order filter that
achieves precise phase matching, system equalization and
minimum interaction. Engineering design using many  units
enabled allowances for  driver tolerances  resulting in
production control of a consistency greater
