8.4 Connect field bus

8.4 Connect field bus

EtherCAT

To connect the EtherCAT field bus, follow the steps below:

Plug the RJ45 connector into port X1.

▶

You can use the X2 field bus interface on the gateway to connect addi-
tional field bus modules or set up communication redundancy.

8.4.1 Maximum cable length

The maximum cable length for an EtherCAT cable with full-duplex 100 Mbit/s
is 100 m.

It may be necessary to use repeaters when using cable lengths of 100 m or
more.

8.5 Connecting the diagnostics interface

The gateway features a Mini-USB port on the front. By using a programming
cable, you can connect it to a computer and do the following with the corre-
sponding software:

Secure the field bus cable in close proximity to the device in
order to reduce mechanical strain on the connection.
