Sonix Hmi-Tu Technical Manual

SONIX HMI-TU TECHNICAL MANUAL

TM377 / A  June 2022  www.eaton.com

2.2.3.3  Hmi-5 barrier Connection

The Hmi-5

MUST

be operated through an Hmi-Br unit to

ensure correct operation and to also meet the requirements for

safe use in a hazardous area installation. The M4 stud earthing

MUST

be attached to the I.S. Earth installed into the cabinet.

Minimum cable size for the I.S. Earth is 4.0 mm

2

.

The Hmi-Br has no user replacement parts or controls. Its

function is to limit the power available into the hazardous

area. It provides 4 channels for voltage and currenting limited

connections. Each channel is protected by a fuse which is not

replaceable.

Warning:

Repairing or modifying the Hmi-Br will

invalidate its ATEX and IECEx certification.

Warning:

The Hmi-Br and Hmi-5 must be used together

to maintain the ATEX and IECEx certification. The Hmi-

Br has only been certified for use with the Hmi-5.

For further information see Appendix A for details of the I.S.

certification details and conditions for safe use.

2.2.3.4  Access panel 0V reference

The interconnecting cable screen provides the 0V return

between the access panels to the Hmi Tu (pin 9/10). The

jumper link LK17 selects the correct refence on the Hmi-Tu for

the access panels to work correctly (see Figure 1).

2.2.4  Local Mute / Local Attenuate unit

Connections to activate a local mute and/or local attenuate

unit are made into the corresponding channel to match the

access panel channel. Both outputs generate 10 V dc [+5 V

and -5 V] and can drive a minimum load impedance of 300Ω.

These outputs are activated by a push to talk event on the

access panel connected to the associated port. The Attenuate

output is also activated on push to talk but additionally can

be manually controlled from a Local Attenuate button on the

same access panel.

Please observe carefully maximum cable weight due to limited

terminal size.
