5. Power Xpert Protection Manager soft-
ware
Eaton’s PXPM is a Microsoft
®
Windows-based software that
configures, controls, monitors, and tests Eaton PXR trip
units. You can create, modify, and save configurations for a
PXR trip unit. The software further allows the user to reset
trip units, adjust trip unit’s date and time, capture current or
voltage waveforms, and perform trip or no-trip tests.
The software is available as a download from the following
link:
. The Power Xpert Protection
Manager’s main screen allows you to complete activities as
described below.
5.1 Setpoint configuration
Key to the protection settings in your trip unit is the configu-
ration screen, which allows you to view and edit setpoints.
In the PXR 20, key protection settings are determined by
physical switches which cannot be changed using PXPM.
The PXR 25’s settings are all configured electronically,
offering a finer resolution and configuration through PXPM.
Settings are arranged in the left half of the screen under
categories for system, protection, communication, and relay
configuration. The upper right part of the screen includes
click-able buttons which take the described action. The mid-
right part of the screen lists the changes you are making,
and the lower right holds a trip-curve which dynamically
changes based on your setting changes.

Typical actions available from the configuration screens
include:
•
View and edit setpoints - For each setpoint, its range, step
size, and description are shown in the tool tip when a user
hovers the mouse cursor over that setpoint.
•
Save as - Saves setpoints to a configuration file. Users
will be prompted to select a location and a name for the
configuration file.
•
Export - Sends the setpoints to a trip unit. The trip unit
must be connected to the computer through USB for
successful operation.
•
PDF report - Exports all setpoints to a portable document
format (PDF) file. Modified setpoint parameters are high-
lighted in the exported PDF file.
•
Undo changes - Resets all setpoints to their original
values.
•
Curves - Shows a dynamic representation of the trip curve
as you are configuring the setpoints. It displays long and
short delay protection curves, as well as ground (earth)
and instantaneous protection curves.
•
Change summary - Displays a summary of setpoints that
have been changed in the present session. Both original
and changed values are displayed.
5.2 Device settings
The Device Settings screen allows you to change the pass-
word, set the date/time, reset the trip unit max./min. values,
counters, and cause of trip indicators.
5.3 Test mode
This set of screens supports the PXR’s internal hardware
secondary injection system. The screens guide you through
testing of the sensors, trip actuator, and tripping perfor-
mance based on your settings and the secondary injection
current selected. Using test mode with the PXR trip unit is
described in Section 6.4.1 - Secondary injection test.
