4.7.2 Restraint Maintenance
Periodically check all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors and anchorages
to ensure they are working properly. Look for any other loose or damaged safety belt
system parts. If you see anything that might keep a safety belt system from working
properly, have it repaired.
All safety belt assemblies used in vehicles involved in a collision should be
replaced. However, if the incident was minor and a qualified service technician finds that
the belts do not show damage and continue to operate properly, they do not need to be
replaced. Safety belt assemblies not used during a collision should also be inspected and
replaced if damaged or improper operation is found.
Failure to inspect and if necessary replace the safety belt assembly following
a collision could result in severe personal injuries in the event of another
collision.
