ADJUSTMENT INSTRUCTIONS

The motion retarding ability of the Slo-Cloz is determined by
the position of the adjustment plug (figure 1, item 4) located
on the boss extending from the body.  The position of the
hash mark on the plug relative to the dots on the body
indicates the setting of the unit.  The ‘X’ indicates full closed.
To open, turn in the counterclockwise direction.  The further
the plug is opened, the easier it is to operate the valve.

Before any adjustments are made, the set screw (figure 1, item
2) holding the adjustment plug in position must be loosened
counterclockwise 1/2 turn.  Akron Brass recommends the hash
mark be turned counterclockwise to the dot indicated below when using a 6-3/4” R-1
handle (P/N 07-21-199):

NOTE: The dot closest to the “X” is the first dot.

WITH THE ABOVE SETTINGS, A 25 lb. LOAD ON A 6-3/4” HANDLE SHOULD
CLOSE THE VALVE IN APPROXIMATELY 3 SECONDS.  DEPENDING ON THE
LENGTH OF THE HANDLE AND THE INSTALLATION OF THE VALVE, IT MAY BE
NECESSARY TO ADJUST THE SLO-CLOZ.

WHILE ADJUSTING THE SLO-CLOZ, YOU WILL NEED TO MEASURE BOTH
FORCE AND TIME OF VALVE ACTUATION.

Tools Required:

ƒ

Spring scale (25 lb. Capacity min.)

ƒ

  5/64” Allen wrench

ƒ

  Stop watch

ƒ

 3/8”

wrench

Procedure:

1.  Ensure Slo-Cloz is properly installed on valve with valve in full-open position.

Loosen the setscrew (figure 1, item 2) counterclockwise 1/2 turn, holding the
adjustment plug (figure 1, item 4) in position.

2.  Attach spring scale to the end of the handle extending through the control panel.

3.  While pulling on the handle with a force of 25 lbs. (as indicated by scale); ensure

that the valve cannot be closed in less than 3 seconds.
