The choice is available between negative logic (the relay switches when no event is
active) and positive logic (the relay switches when an event is active).
The initial status of the relays is dependent on the settings of the internal switches (for
the D-R 290 e.g. SW 1 and 2; see also section
5.4.7 Configuration of the relay outputs
in the relevant device manual).
