The following operations cannot be performed during infrared communication:
• Even when the signal level icon is displayed, other types of communication are not possible during infrared
communication (
displayed).
• The Infrared Communication function cannot be us during a voice or video-phone call, when the FOMA terminal is using

mode, or during packet or 64K data communication.

• The FOMA terminal is effectively outside the i-mode service area during infrared communication and cannot be used for
voice or video-phone calls, i-mode communication, i-mode mail or packet communication.
Sending and Receiving Individual Data Entries
The Infrared Communication function can be used to exchange individual data entries with other FOMA terminals.

The types of data that can be exchanged are as follows:
Phonebook entries that can be received
• Name, reading, phone number, e-mail address, postal code, street address, memo, birthday, still images and icon
information
• Received “Own number” data is stored as a phonebook entry.
Receiving single phonebook entries
• When phonebook entries are received, if there are already 700 stored names, phone numbers or e-mail addresses, or if
the number will exceed 700 when the data is received, a message appears saying that the data cannot be stored.
• Where a phonebook entry includes multiple stored phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses, all the data is exchanged.
• Phonebook data cannot be sent or received when “Keypad dial lock” is set.
• “Own number” data cannot be sent when “Restrict dialing” is set.
• Phonebook data cannot be received when “Restrict dialing” is set.
• Phonebook entries that were stored as Secret data in “Secret mode” (P. 148) or “Secret only mode” (P. 148) are
exchanged with the “Secret mode” or “Secret only mode” attribute removed.
• The phonebook secret code is not exchanged.

Received data is stored as follows:

Phonebook entries: Entries are stored under the lowest available memory numbers between “010” and “699”. If data is already stored for all the
numbers between “010” and “699”, the entries are stored in the lowest available memory numbers between “000” and “009” (used for two-touch
dialing) (P. 110).
・
Personal information in the own number display: Stored as a phonebook entry.
・
Schedule entries: Stored according to the start date/time for the received entries.
・
ToDo list entries: Stored at the top of the ToDo list.
・
Received mail: Stored in the Inbox folder by the date of the received mail.
・
Sent mail: Stored in the Outbox folder by the date of the sent mail.
・
Draft mail: Stored in the Draft box folder by the date of the draft mail.
・
Text memos: Stored under the highest <Not recorded> number.
・
Bookmarks: Stored at the top of the Bookmark folder.
・
Images: Stored at the top of the My picture Inbox folder.

You can send and receive still images and movies whose titles have up to 9 full-pitch and 18half-pitch characters.
●
You can send and receive melodies whose titles have up to 25 full-pitch and 50 half-pitch characters.
●
If the file is too big to be stored, a warning message to that effect is displayed and sending (or receiving) may fail.
●
During infrared communication, the FOMA terminal status is effectively “out of area”, so if you receive a call, the call is rejected and the caller sees a
message saying, “Out of range or turned off”. If you have activated Voice Mail or Call Forwarding, the call is transferred to the Voice Mail Center or
forwarded to the forwarding number.
●
Depending on the file size, data transfer may take some time. In some cases, you may be unable to receive the file.
●
You cannot use infrared communication while the FOMA USB connection (optional) is connected to the FOMA terminal.
