FeliCa
What is FeliCa?
FeliCa is a type of contactless IC card technology that allows data to be read from and written to an IC card simply
by holding the card over a reader/writer unit (externally equipped*). FeliCa compatibility in mobile phones means
that mobile phones can act as digital wallets, allowing users to pay for purchases using electronic cash simply by
holding the handset over an external reader/writer unit*. The advent of FeliCa makes mobile phones an even more
important and convenient lifestyle tool.
Compared with existing FeliCa-compatible contactless IC cards, the IC card in your mobile phone is even more
convenient, since it allows you to credit money to the card from an i-mode site or Internet website and to check your
balance and transaction history. These useful FeliCa functions are referred to as IC card functions.
To use the IC card functions, first download a FeliCa i-

●
The procedures for applying for and using the FeliCa services differ depending on the IP (information service provider)
used. Contact the IP directly for specific information. Refer to the “FOMA i-mode User’s manual” for important notes on
using the FeliCa services.
●
You should make a note of the names of the FeliCa services you use and their contact details in case data on the IC card
is corrupted or lost when the FOMA terminal is damaged, repaired, replaced or otherwise mishandled. (When the FOMA
terminal is sent for repairs, users are usually asked to erase their personal data.) Note that NTT DoCoMo accepts no
liability whatsoever for any loss or corruption of the data on the IC card. When data on the IC card is erased, lost or
corrupted, the problem is dealt with differently depending on the FeliCa service used. Contact your IP (information
service provider) beforehand for details.
●
When your mobile phone is upgraded or exchanged following repairs at a DoCoMo service outlet, data stored on the IC
card cannot be copied to the new phone. This problem is dealt with differently depending on the FeliCa service used.
Contact your IP (information service provider) beforehand for details.
●
Take particular care not to lose your FOMA terminal. If you lose your FOMA terminal, contact your IP (information service
provider) for information on the FeliCa services you have been using. Note that restrictions can be imposed on IC card
functions using the FOMA terminal’s All lock and Remote all lock functions.
