How To Setup Common Channels
Channels are the viewer-facing interface to the DEVOS system. In this example, we will
set up Channels using names for an educational organization, and allow multiple
parties to publish to them.
Login to the DEVOS as a user with publishing privileges
Navigate to Security and Manage Groups. Select "Add New Group" and enter
a convenient name for your group, for example "History Teachers".
Enter the first few letters of the name of a person that will be part of this
group, select them from the list and choose "Add". Repeat until your group is
complete (for example, all History Teachers). If you have an Active Directory
group already created for History Teachers, you can just add that group. Save
the new Security Group.
Navigate to Manage Channels and right-click on "root"
Select "Create" and notice a new Channel appears. It will have a name like
"point_a123b456".
Right-click on the new Channel and select "Rename", then enter the desired
name of the Channel, for example "History".
Right-click on the new Channel "History", and select "Settings"
Enter a title, heading, optional icon, and select a logo. If you want to limit
access to your new "History" Channel, you can select a Security Group for
access.
For Add/Remove Groups, select "History Teachers", the security group you
created above. This will allow members of that group to publish to your new
"History" Channel.
If you wish to add a password to the Channel, turn on Password and enter the
desired password.
Check Enable Channel to cause the Channel to appear in the user interface
Check Require Login if you wish to limit viewers only to those who have
logged in to the system (for example, to track who viewed what content)
Check Add To Roku if you use Roku devices and want this Channel to be
visible there
Check Lock Creating Children if you want to prevent others with video
publishing privileges from creating a folder under yours
Check Apply Selected Security Groups To All Videos if you want your changes
to apply to any sub-Channels
