When using the driver function IOCTL_DNDEV_BAR_WRITE_BUFFER to do target
access writes, each transaction (32 bit) takes an average of 4 PCI clock cycles, with an additional
100 PCI clock cycles of overhead for each driver call. This means that, depending on whether
writes are sequential (so each driver call can write multiple words), performance will range from
1.3MB/s to 33MB/s
When using the driver function IOCTL_DNDEV_DNQL_DMA_WRITE to do DMA access
writes, as the size of the buffer increases, write performance will approach 33MB/s and read
performance will approach 81MB/s.
When accessing MainBus using PCI registers, performance will be equal to the least efficient
target access numbers: 0.88MB/s reads and 1.3MB/s writes.
If you require performance greater than the values given above, contact Dini Group and we can
suggest ways of improving throughput.
7.2.8
64-bit addressing
Works now. Requires a 64-bit PCI addressing is available on machines that have both a 64-bit
processor and 64-bit OS. The driver must be re-compiled from the source code to support your
system, using an appropriate build environment.
7.3
Host Interface, Electrical
The DN9002K10PCI is compatible with 32 or 64 bit PCI slots. It can operate at 33 or 66Mhz,
at 3.3V or 5.0V. You can also install into a PCI-X slot, and the PCI-X bus will automatically
revert to a 66 MHz, 64-bit PCI bus.
Be careful not to install the DN9002K10PCI backwards in a PCI slot. Since the edge connector
on the DN9002K10PCI is universal, it will happily fit into the PCI slot backwards… Until it
self- immolates.
7.3.1
Power
The DN9002K10PCI current capacity greatly exceeds the maximum allowed power
requirements for a PCI card (35W). The DN9002K10PCI is designed so that external power
can be applied so the card will function in slots that require cards follow the specification (many
servers). See the power section in this chapter for instructions.
The DN9002K10PCI is not designed to support PCI hot plug. Turn off the DN9002K10PCI
and host before connecting PCI.
7.3.2
PCI-X
The QL5064 is not capable of PCI-X, therefore, the DN9002K10PCI is not capable of PCI-X.
However, the board will correctly work in a PCI-X slot, reverting the entire bus to a 64 bit, 66
MHz PCI bus.
