Signal Masts
The Digitrax Plug ‘N Play Signal Mast consists of a signal mast with one or two
signal heads depending on mast configuration. Included with the kit are mount
-
ing boards and hardware that makes it easy to mount and connect the signal mast
to the SE8C signal driver cable. This product is intended for use with the SE8C
and other Digitrax signaling decoders. It is recommend that you thoroughly
review those manuals and have a working knowledge of signaling systems.
How do you use these signal mast circuit boards?
These signal masts are designed for simple installation and do not require any
additional decoration. If desired the boards can be painted or have additional
components added for a more realistic appearance. Be sure any additional deco-
rations are non-conductive to avoid creating any short circuit on the board.
The Plug ‘N Play Signal Mast Base has a small 10-pin plug that simply plugs into
the socket on the SMP1 mounting board. The SMP1 is designed to be easily in
-
stalled underneath your layout. Once mounted the SE8C signal driver cable can
be connected to the bottom of the SMP1 and then back to the SE8C.
To mount the signal masts and SMP1 start by locating where you want the signal
mast to be installed. Drill either a 3/8" hole or suitable slot down through the
top of the layout. Next locate the SMP1 under the hole so that the signal can be
installed by plugging it in from the top of the layout. The black connector should
be facing up. Use the included screws and spacers to attach the SMP1 to the bot
-
tom of your layout. Insert the signal down through the top of the layout and seat
it in the black connector. The included spacers can be cut to adjust the height of
the signal based on the thickness of the layout surface. Finally connect the SE8C
signal driver cable to the downward facing pins on the SMP1. Pin 1 is indicated
on the SMP1 and should be towards the brown wire in the ribbon cable.
