Pediatric technique chart
The exposure table on an adult should never be used on a pediatric patient because
this would cause over exposure to the child. Many studies for pediatric patients have
shown that they are more sensitive to radiation than adult patients. Therefore,
operators should take care of minimizing radiation exposure when taking images of a
pediatric patient.
Please use caution when taking x-ray images of a pediatric patient and make sure to
follow the exposure table.
Verify the body part before take x-ray and set exposure condition properly based
on partial exposure condition table for a pediatric patient. The Partial exposure time
table is made by SID 70cm. It may not be accurate if SID is changed.
The pediatric patients tend to move more frequently during x-ray procedure. It may
cause the x-ray image to be unacceptable then the pediatric patient would need
retakes. Therefore, the operator has to acquire the image after the patient is calm
and immobile.
In Addition, Parents or responsible adult can safely remain in the same room due to
the low dose output of the iRayA6s (ADX6000s). The parent of the pediatric patient
can assist the operator for the child to stay calm and still during x-ray procedure.
The Pediatric patient and parent or responsible adult have to wear PPE during
exposure to avoid unnecessary exposed.
Below exposure time table for the pediatric patients is 40% lower than adult.
