COMMANDS VIA SMS
If the data logger has the GSM/UMTS module, many of the serial commands described in chap-
ter 11 can be sent to the data logger via SMS through a mobile phone. The feature is useful if
a link to the PC is not available.
The SMS message must be sent to the number of the SIM card included in the data logger
GSM/UMTS module. For security reasons, the commands are executed only if they come from
the mobile phone numbers set in the data logger by using the serial command PHONE and if
the SMS text begins with a keyword established by the user and set with the serial command
SMSKEYCODE (see section 11.17). Alternatively, phone numbers and keyword can be set with
the help of the Meteo Studio software.
Example: let’s assume that the keyword set with the serial command SMSKEYCODE is W72A
and you wish to disable file transmission by e-mail, you will have to send the following text
message:
W72A EMAILTRANSMIT N
The response to some commands sent by SMS may differ as compared to the same command
sent via serial connection, due to the limited length of the SMS text. The response is sent by
the data logger only to the mobile phone number which sent the SMS command.
Commands that might produce too long responses to be contained in a SMS text are not avail-
able via SMS. Some commands, however, are not available via SMS to preserve the security of
the system (for example, the mobile phone number with index 0 cannot be changed with the
command PHONE sent via SMS).
