VMware ESXi Driver Fails To Install
Cause Full path to the offline zip depot or VIB (vSphere Installation Bundle) is not specified.
Description When the full path to the zip depot or VIB is not specified, the following error message is
displayed:
[MetadataDownloadError] Could not download from depot at
zip:/var/log/vmware/ <offline_zip_depot>? index.xml, skipping

Solution Specify the full path to the location of the offline zip depot. For example, if the file is located
in /tmp/driver, then the command must be:
esxcli software vib install -
d /tmp/driver/<offline_zip_depot>
PCIe SSD Is Listed In ESXi Host But Cannot Be Accessed In The Virtual Machine
Cause The PCIe SSD is hot swapped.
Description The virtual machine may become unresponsive and shut down.
Solution Reboot the ESXi host and restart the virtual machine.
VMware Reports A Missing Virtual Disk After A PCIe SSD Is Removed
Cause The PCIe SSD is either ungracefully removed from the system or it is properly removed but the
virtual machine is not properly configured.
Description VMware reports a missing virtual disk in the path /vmfs/volumes/…/…/VD-name.vmdk after a
PCIe SSD is removed.
Solution Dell PowerEdge Express Flash PCIe SSDs do not support hot swap in VMware ESXi. If the PCIe
SSD is properly removed while the ESXi host system is shut down, ensure the virtual machine
is reconfigured to reflect the removal.
VMware ESX 5.5 With Native Driver Version 3.3.4 Does Not Respond When The Host

Cause The host system is set to boot in the UEFI mode.
Description VMware ESX 5.5 with native driver version 3.3.4 does not respond when the host operating
system is booting.
