Adding disks to a ScaleIO SDS
Before adding disks to a ScaleIO SDS, you must verify the disk controller type
installed on the server. Depending on the type of controller card, you will:
l
HBA330 controller card: Proceed directly to deploying the ScaleIO system.
l
H730 controller card: Create a virtual device (VD) on the disk.
Verify the disk controller type
Verify the controller type installed on a DELL PowerEdge server using the integrated
Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) web utility.
Before you begin
Ensure that you have access to:
l
The IP address of the BMC (iDRAC) port
l
The username and password for accessing the BMC (iDRAC)
The iDRAC is embedded in the DELL PowerEdge server and it functionally appears
between the server and the Ethernet network. The iDRAC enables you to deploy,
update, monitor, and maintain the servers with or without a systems management
software agent.
The server contains one of two types of controller cards:
l
HBA330 controller card: This server has only SSD.
l
H730p/H740p controller card: This server may have either only HDD, or a mix of
HDD and SSD.
Procedure
1. From your Internet browser, go to http:// <BMC/iDRAC_IP_address>.
2. In the DELL Console Login window, type the user name and password, and
click Login.
The Integrated Remote Access Controller screen appears.
3. In the navigation pane, select Storage
>
Controllers.
Controller-related information is displayed in the Health and Properties table,
with the controller type shown in the Name column.

After you finish
Depending on the type of controller card, you need to:
l
HBA330 controller card: Deploy the ScaleIO system, as described in the ScaleIO
Ready Node VMware Quick Start Guide .
l
H730p/H740p controller card: Create a VD, starting by enabling the PERCCLI disk
utility on the server.
