ELM with VMware vSphere is used to integrate VMware vCenter Management for five Converged
Systems in the same data center. ELM with VMware vSphere 6.5U1 with five Converged
Systems is an operational, fault and management domain. Exceeding this limit is not supported.
Each Converged System may have multiple VMware vCenter servers. In this scenario, compute,
network, and storage resources are not shared between the two or more discrete VMware
vCenter servers located in each Converged System.

•

ELM with VMware vSphere is used to integrate VMware vCenter Management for five Converged
Systems in separate data centers. Exceeding this limit is not supported. In this scenario,
compute, network and storage resources are not shared between the two or more discrete
VMware vCenter servers located in separate datacenters. This configuration is very similar to a
configuration for two Converged Systems in the same data center, but introduces network
latency.

Dell EMC recommends AMP-2S with an SMP/VMP configuration to simplify VMware vSphere 6.5U1
management with more than two Converged Systems or VMware vCenter servers.

Backup and restore Converged Systems with VMware ELM
(vSphere 6.5U1)

The VMware vCenter Server 6.5 supports file-based and image-based backups. Backup/Restore jobs can
be initiated using GUI or API interfaces.Dell EMC recommends using VCSA Native

file-based backup

to

backup/restore PSC vCenter Server and recommends following the procedure to recover failed PSC’s/
VC’s. All PSCs/VCs in a SSO domain must be backed-up

A recent backup must be available locally in the recovery site. VCSA Installer of same version/build
should be available for recovery operation. The failed PSC must be powered off and removed from
vCenter inventory.

Backing up the PSC using the backup option

Follow this task to initiate the backup.

button on the right pane.

Select the protocol used to backup.

Provide backup location.

Click

finish

to initiate the backup.

Restoring a failed PSC

A VMware vCenter server connected to a failed PSC must be repointed to surviving PSC to restore
vCenter services.
