Mounting -
Use either the enclosed cable ties as shown on the sketch, or two or
more screws in some of the four bracket holes to fasten the charger on a suitable place in
the engine room. Fit the charger with the PlugIn connectors pointing DOWNWARDS to avoid
water penetration. Place the charger in a safe distance from hot and/or rotating engine parts
like the exhaust system, turbo, steering bar and the coolant fan.
DO NOT open or dismount the charger - The charger contains high voltage.
v
Do not bend or twist (
v
-2
) the cable close to the PlugIn connectors. Minimum 5,0cm
(
v
-1
) straight cable from the PlugIn connectors.

-
z
Connect the charger to the battery via the enclosed 7,5A fuse. To obtain optimal
charging, DO NOT cut or extends the cables between the charger and the battery.
Some vehicles have a battery monitoring system. Connect ground according to the
vehicle manufacturers recommendation.
w
Add your language sticker on the charger over the english sticker (

).

Function -
The charger diagram is showing the chargers 4 - step charging sequence
(
S1
,
S2
,
S3
and
S4
) at +20°C and the charging current over a period of time t.
S1:
Boost Mode - 4A charging until it achieves 14,3V after Max 24 hours.
S2:
Top charging - At 14,3V until the current is up under 1,0A or after Max 10 hours.
S3:
Maintenance charging - At constant voltage 13,8V until the current is less than 0,5A or
Max 48 hours.
S4:
Pulse maintenance charging - Pulse voltage between 13,3V and 13,8V.
The charging sequence starts automatically again if the voltage drops under 13V. The charging
voltage is temperature compensated (0,03V/°C) which always ensures a fully charged battery.
The charger will start when connecting to 230V. If you are using a DeFA timer like Futura or
SmartStart™, the charger will start charging even if your timer is OFF as long as the system
is connected to 230V. DeFA MultiCharger 1204 can advantageously be used over a long-run
and all year.

: The LeD places at the top of the charger will illuminate red at
S1
, orange at
S2
, green
at
S3
and flashing green at
S4
.
If the LeD is flashing red, it indicates either a defect fuse/not connects to battery or to high
voltage like if it is connected to a 24V system.
Orange flashing LeD indicate that the chargers temperature protection has occurred because
the chargers temperature is above 85°C. The charger will start charging again when the
temperature drops.
