Window Repair 

 

Lightly scratched windows can be polished back to a state of optical clarity.  If scratches or dents are 
greater than 0.5mm deep, the window must be replaced due to the loss of structural integrity. For 
scratches and dents 0.5mm or less you can repair the window while it is installed on the ROV using the 
following method: 
 

1)

 

Protect the surrounding parts near the area to be worked on.  Do not cover any part of the 
window, only adjacent parts such as the side bodies. 

2)

 

Using a #1000 sandpaper, buff the scratch or dent out.  Coarser sandpaper can be used if 
required if the scratch or dent is significant. 

3)

 

Using a #2000 sandpaper, polish the area that was previously buffed with the coarser paper.  
Continue to buff until no work marks are visible.  The window surface should appear chalky 
white at this point. 

4)

 

Using a paper towel or lint free cloth that is 100% free of any sort of grit, rub in a liquid polishing 
compound that is compatible with Acrylic/PMMA plastic.  Continue to polish until the window 
appears optically clear.
