1.2 The S2A9550 System Hardware
This section describes the hardware components of the S2A9550.
The basic S2A9550 (Figure 1-1) includes:
• A single unit (with a minimum of 2.56 GB cache memory)
• Ten SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) cables which connect the S2A9550 to the FC
drive enclosures (Refer to Cabling & Switching Information for S2A8500 &
S2A9550 and Drive Enclosures 96-00164-001)
• Cable(s) for host Fibre Channel connection(s)
• Serial cable for maintenance/diagnostics
• Ethernet cable
The S2A9550 is a 2U, 19-inch rack-mountable chassis that houses four (4) power supply
modules, one (1) fan module (which contains two fans), and the internal electronics—a
motherboard containing all of the drive-side, caching, and command processor functions,
and a daughterboard containing the host connectivity electronics.
The system uses ten (10) independent FC drive channels to manage data distribution and
storage for up to 125 disk drives per channel (could be limited by drive enclosure type).
