Unfail a Disk
To change a disk status from failed to available, use the
disk unfail
disk-ID
command.
Use the command when doing a hot-swap replacement of a failed disk. The new disk in the “failed”
slot is seen as failed until it is unfailed.

Check All Disks
To check that the Data Domain OS and hardware recognize all the disks, use the
disk beacon
all
operation. The operation causes the LED on the right for all disks to flash green. Use the
(Control) c
key sequence to turn off the operation. Administrative users only.

Identify a Physical Disk in the Chassis
The
disk beacon

operation causes the LED on the right for the target disk to flash
green. Use the

key sequence to turn off the operation. Administrative users only.

Display Disk Status
The
disk show summary
operation displays the number of disks in use and failed, the number
of spare disks available, and whether a RAID disk group reconstruction is underway. Note that the
RAID
portion of the display could show one or more disks as failed while the
Operational
portion
of the display could show all drives as “operating nominally.” A disk can be physically functional
and available, but not currently in use by RAID, possibly because of operator intervention.
disk show summary
On a restorer using external storage, the display shows only the number and state of the LUNs
accessed by the restorer. The remainder of the display is not valid.
The display for a restorer using internal disks is similar to the following:

Configuration: 15 drives present
RAID:
14 drives are “in use”
