In order to make the Radi

L

ink

®

system as safe as possible, the following design

measures are taken.

After starting the LASER link (see paragraph 3.3), the digital link first starts to
communicate with the remote unit. If the connection is successful, the analogue
laser will be started.

An automatic loop detection system senses damaged or disconnected fibre optic
cables. If this occurs, the LASER switches off automatically within 50 milliseconds.

A processor in the control unit verifies all circuits before LASER activation. The LASER
cannot be activated if a fault is detected.

The processor verifies data validity from the remote unit. Invalid data results in an
automatic LASER shut down.

Fibre handling and maintenance

The Radi

L

ink

®

fibres are a crucial part of the system. Improper handling and poor

maintenance cause deterioration or permanent damage. Please follow the handling and
maintenance guidelines below.

Some important guidelines for handling of the fibres and connectors are:

Always place the plastic end-caps on the fibre connectors when they are not in use.
Only use the supplied end caps.

Clean the fibre surfaces before installation with isopropyl alcohol and lint-free wipes.
After cleaning dry the surface with a non-contaminating lint-free wipe.

NEVER touch the tip of the fibre connector (core surface).

Never drop the fibre connectors, as this may damage the core surface.

Never bend the fibres (exceed the minimum bend radius (<5 cm)), as this will break the
fibre core.

Never pull the fibre connector out of a coupling by its jacket or sleeve, always use the
connector.

Fasten the connectors by hand only, never with tools.

Do not stand on or crush the fibres.

Do not apply mechanical stress (pull) to the fibres.

The fibre lifetime will be extended by following all precautions and guidelines.
