NOtE: On the inside of the grille there is a piece of non-woven. the non-woven is on the grille
to protect the drivers against dust and dirt. therefore the non-woven must remain on the grille.
the supplied DALI logo badge can optionally be mounted on the grille. to mount the logo badge,
remove the protective film from the rear side of the logo badge and position the logo on the grille in
the desired position (see figure 7). If you wish to paint the grille the logo badge should be mounted
after painting.
4.3 Adjustment of Switches
When the grille is removed from the loudspeaker, you will see the woofer and the tweeter and two
switches (see figure 8). the switches can be used to adjust the sound from the loudspeaker to a
custom setup. the switches can be operated independent of each other.
One switch can increase the tweeter level 3dB if it is switched from the “Normal” setting to the
“HF tilt” setting.
the other switch can focus or distribute the sound from the loudspeaker. When the listeners
are relatively close to the center axis of the loudspeaker (closer than 25 degrees off-axis) we
recommend setting the switch to the “Normal” setting. When listening far away from the center
axis of the loudspeaker (more than 25 degrees off-axis) or if the speaker is used to fill a large area
with sound, we recommend setting the switch to “Distributed”.
4.4 Speaker Rotation – Using the Compass
When the grille is removed you can see a compass ring (kompas in Danish) round the edge of the
loudspeaker bezel (see figure 9), which can be used to read out the rotation of the loudspeaker
relatively to e.g. a fixed line on the ceiling. the tweeter is slightly off-center and should be
positioned so it is closest to the main listening position.
4.5 Connection of Cables/Selection of Cables
your choice of cables is a crucial element in your installation. Be aware that replacing cables
after installation is a difficult task. therefore, select quality cables from the beginning. DALI has a
range of speaker cables, which are suitable. Please consult your authorized DALI dealer for further
advice on which cable to select.
When connecting the cable to the loudspeaker and the amplifier, it is important that the cable is
connected in correct phase. the red (+) loudspeaker terminal must be connected to the red (+)
amplifier terminal. the black (-) loudspeaker terminal must be connected to the black (-) amplifier
terminal. If the cables are not connected in correct phase, the soundstage will typically be diffuse
and the bass will be weak.
to insert the cable end into the spring loaded terminals of the speaker, remove cable insulation so
that approx. ½” / 12 mm of bare wire is exposed. Press the top of the terminal down and insert the
bare wire into the opening. When the wire is fully in place with no loose strands exposed, release
the terminal. the cable is now connected. Please refer to figure 10 for correct cable connection.

the enclosed cut-out template (see figure 11) can be used to initially visualize how your speakers
should be mounted and for marking where the cut-out should be made. tape the template at the
preferred mounting position, so that you can mark the necessary opening. the cut-out for the
DALI PHANtOM KOMPAS must be 8,7” / 221 mm in diameter. the minimum mounting depth is
3,9” / 100 mm.

to make a discreet loudspeaker solution the loudspeaker can be painted with the same colour
as used on the ceiling/wall where the speaker is to be mounted to match your home decor. We
recommend using standard spray paint.
Painting the loudspeaker requires great care and attention and should only be done by a
qualified professional.
It is extremely important for the loudspeaker’s performance that no paint touches the drive units.
therefore, it is necessary to cover the black front and the drive units with the enclosed cover mask
before painting (see figure 12).
NOtE: When painting the loudspeaker, do not remove the drive units. the grille should be removed
from the loudspeaker before painting. After painting, the logo badge can be attached.
the protective cover mask must be carefully positioned, because the drive units are very sensitive
and can be damaged by even the slightest pressure. When the bezel has been painted and the
paint is dry, remove the cover. the cover mask can be used again, if you wish to re-paint the
loudspeaker later.
the front grille must be painted from the front only. NOtE: Right after painting the grille, spray its
rear with compressed air to remove any paint in the holes/non-woven. Dried paint can block
the sound.
