2.2.3.1 2x2 Optical Switch
In applications that include daisy-chain of DRUs, if one of the remote units fails, the units that are downstream will
lose the signal and be out of service.
To prevent this type of network failure it is necessary to incorporate component that will bypass the failed unit and
ensure continuity of the signal flow between to the rest of the remote units, which are part of a daisy-chain
network.
An externally or internally mounted 2x2 optical switch is available separately as an accessory for the remote unit.
In a case of internally mounted optical switch, replacement of the failed unit will introduce minor service
interruption (time required to insert bypass optical patch cable).
Externally mounted optical switch ensures seamless swap of the failed remote unit. It is mounted as an extension
to remote unit optical interface connectors, or on a side of the unit.
