4.5.2 CPCI Card Installation
CAUTION
: If the host chassis and system board support Hot Swap specification
PICMG 2.1, Revision 1.0, the CPCI card may be inserted into a powered system.
Otherwise, the host chassis’ power should be OFF to ensure that no damage occurs.
1.
Remove the bulkhead cover plate where the S SC150e CPCI host
card will be placed.
2.
Slide the board into a desired peripheral bus slot while applying enough force to
ensure a tight fit into the backplane connector. After insertion, use a standard
Phillips-head screwdriver to secure the faceplate onto the frame of the computer
chassis.
3.
Connect the Transmitter and Receiver fiber-optic cables to the S
SC150e card.
4.6 Cabling Configuration and Connection
4.6.1 Fiber-optic Configuration
The S SC150e product is available in standard fiber optic media (820 nm
wavelength) for short distances and long link fiber-optic media (1300 nm wavelength) for
long distances. The part number label described in section 4.3 can be used to differentiate
a S SC150e card with standard fiber-optic media from a card with long-link
fiber-optic media.
The basic S SC150e Network communication architecture consists of
S SC150e cards tied together by paired sets of fiber-optic cable in a ring
configuration. The maximum recommended distance between each node of the network
using standard fiber optic media is approximately 300 meters. The maximum node
separation using long link fiber optic media is 3,500 meters. The recommended fiber-
optic cable, for both standard and long-link fiber-optic media, is 62.5/125 micron core
multi-mode fiber cable with ST connectors.
NOTE
: On a freshly powered system, a message from any node on the ring may be
necessary to establish the carrier.
