Chapter 12: Ventilation operation
that Natural ventilation is disabled at this age. the Natural ventilation curves are part of a larger tempera-
ture setting program that can also integrate Power and Tunnel curve settings.
Transition from Power to Natural ventilation
System is considered in Power ventilation until all inlet whisker switches have validated opening for Natu-
ral ventilation and/or all
Natural Mode At
positions have been reached. When this happens, the system
is considered in Natural ventilation mode. At this moment, Natural stage in the ventilation grid becomes
effective, causing fans and inlets to obey to their Natural stage assignation.
Transition from Natural to Power ventilation
As house/barn average temperature drops, some of the inlets average temperature may drop as well
causing inlets to close. When one of the Natural inlet openings is below its individual
Natural mode
starts at
opening or one of the whisker switch disengages from the Natural position, the controller
resumes Power ventilation.
Ventilation modes move from Natural to Power and the current active stage moves from Natural to Power
ventilation stage corresponding to the current house/barn average temperature in the ventilation grid. At
this time, average temperature dictates the actual stage according to the settings in the ventilation grid:
— Inlets move to their target opening for the selected stage.
— Cycle time timer starts.
— Corresponding fan groups are activated one after the other with a 5 second delay in between their
starts
As these actions are taking place, the EDGE controller displays the following: «[House/barn name ] tran-
siting From to Natural to Power ventilation mode »
On the main screen, the ventilation tile displays
Power
. When Power inlet positions are reached, Power
ventilation is the current ventilation Mode.
Tunnel ventilation: How it works
Tunnel ventilation is one of the three ventilation modes supported by EDGE.
House/barn temperature
Different probes are used to calculate the house/barn temperature when in Tunnel mode. You can assign
the probes for Tunnel ventilation in the house/barn temperature setup menu by pressing on the probe
assignment radio button at the lower left hand side of the house/barn setup menu.
When in Tunnel ventilation mode, the house/barn temperature is taken from the probes assigned to
Tunnel ventilation.
Outside temperature
You can set a minimum outside temperature below which Tunnel ventilation isn’t allowed. If the outside
temperature drops five degree below the minimum temperature for Tunnel, the system exits Tunnel
mode.
Age
You can set a minimum age below which Tunnel ventilation mode is not allowed.
