How to Mitigate Risks
1.4.1
Always earth the device first
It is recommended to always earth the device first before making any other electrical
connections. This ensures the device casing to be at the same potential of the safety
environment and will eliminate the risk of electric shock. At the same time it improves
signal quality by providing a return path for all built-in Electro Magnetic Interference
(EMI) filters.
1.4.2
Install external shorting blocks
Install external shorting blocks on Current Input Circuits (CT). The output of
conventional 1A/5A CT circuits may not be interrupted (opened) when under load. It
is recommended to install external shorting blocks to allow users to first short out the
CT circuits prior to device installation and in the event of device replacement.
1.4.3
Locking of terminal plugs
Lockable plug terminals are provided with each device. Please ensure that all locking
screws are secured during installation. This will ensure that current input circuits are
not accidentally opened under load and it will reduce risk of electrical shock.
1.4.4
Use of external fuses or circuit breakers
It is recommended to install external fuses or circuit breakers on all voltage inputs and
on the mains supply input. It simplifies device installation and it keeps the installation
save and hazardous free in the event of device replacement.
1.4.5
Provide surge arrestors
It is recommended to install external surge arrestors on all voltage inputs and on mains
supply input on installations that is located in a high lightning area. It is also
recommended to properly earth all antennae as well as external routers or other
communication equipment. This will significantly improve system reliability and will
reduce the possibility of electrical shock or equipment failure.
