Instructions:
First attach Fan Box:

1.

Find a side of the kiln that has no obstructions; i.e.: no handles, no peepholes, etc. to install the fan. A clean
surface from top to bottom and side to-side (picture A, B).

2.

On the clean side of the kiln, install the fan box by attaching the bracket a ½” in from the convex corner of the
kiln side.   The top of the fan box should be flush with the bottom of the kiln.  Attach with screws provided.
Install the center screws first then, the outside screws.  The fan box should not touch the ground.

Second drill Vent Holes behind Chimney:

     1.      Place the chimney on the top of the fan box, bracket side down, covering the opening in the upper left corner.  (Do

not attach the chimney to kiln or the fan box at this time.)  On the side of the kiln, make a pencil mark at the top
center point of the chimney. (picture C)

     2.

Remove the chimney from fan and kiln.

     3.

From that mark, take the straight edge and draw a line down the length of the kiln to the center point of the opening
in the fan box. (picture D)

     4.

Measure down 2 ¼” from the top of the kiln and place a mark on the line you have drawn.  This is the first vent hole
location.  Next, measure down 4 ½” from the first mark to position the next vent hole.  Repeat this measurement for
each vent hole until you reach the bottom edge of the kiln. (picture E)

Note:

Be sure these marks do not line up with elements that are inside the kiln.  If necessary, change the locations to

miss the elements.

     5.

Using the 5/32

nd

drill bit, drill the vent holes at each mark you made.  These vent holes go through the kiln skin and

brick to the interior of the kiln. (picture F)

Third attach Chimney:

1.

Using the screws provided, attach the chimney (bracket side down) first to the top and side of the fan box (left side),
then to the kiln. (picture G)

Operating the Cress Clean Air System:

1.

Close all peepholes with peephole plugs.  Do not plug up the vent holes you drilled behind the chimney.

2.

Load kiln and fire as normal.  Lid must be closed completely.  Do not use the lid prop.

3.

Plug the fan cord into a 115 volt wall receptacle.

4.

To turn it on, push the orange button and the fan will start.  The button will be lit when the fan is on.

5.

To shut the fan off, push the button again.  The light will go off and the fan will stop.   Unplug the cord
