Replacing the Mylar Strip

Replacing the Mylar Strip
The mylar strip is a transparent membrane that prevents the suction cups
on the picker from marking the emulsion on the plates (the suction cups
are used to pick a plate from the stack). When the membrane becomes
scratched, bent, or torn, it needs to be replaced.
You must place the machine in maintenance mode before you can replace
the mylar strip. When in maintenance mode, the machine moves the
picker up and unlocks the plate cover.
Frequency of Strip Replacement
The mylar strip should be replaced every six months or whenever it shows
visible wear and tear.
To replace the mylar strip:
1.
Cancel all active jobs at the workstation.
2.
Press and hold the Start button for six seconds to put the machine in
maintenance mode.
The machine beeps once to indicate it is in maintenance mode.
3.
Open the plate cover.
If you do not open the plate cover within two minutes, the machine
will exit maintenance mode and the picker will move down to its
default position.
4.
Remove the existing mylar strip from the picker by pulling each end of
the strip off the screw head. See Figure 31.
5.
Take one end of the replacement mylar strip and snap it over the screw
head that protrudes from the side of the picker facing you.
Position the mylar strip so that the mounting holes are closest to the
upper edge of the membrane. See Figure 31.
Note:
Some mylar strips have a protective coating (the strip will be cloudy
rather than clear). Once you’ve mounted one end of the strip, remove the
protective coating.
