9 Oximeter Maintenance
Overview
This section describes the steps required to maintain, service, and properly clean
your OxiMax N-600x™ pulse oximeter. Follow local governing ordinance and
recycling instructions regarding the disposal or recycling of the oximeter and its
accessories.
Cleaning
WARNING
Do not spray, pour, or spill any liquid on the OxiMax N-600x pulse oximeter, its
accessories, connectors, switches, or openings in the chassis.
For surface cleaning and disinfection of the oximeter, follow your institution's
procedures or the recommended actions below.
•
Surface cleaning
—Use a soft cloth dampened with either a commercial, nonabrasive
cleaner or a solution of 70% alcohol in water, lightly wiping the surfaces of the oximeter.
•
Disinfection
—Use a soft cloth saturated with a solution of 10% chlorine bleach in tap
water, lightly wiping the surface of the oximeter.
Before attempting to clean an OxiMax™ pulse oximetry sensor, read the

enclosed with the sensor. Each sensor model has cleaning instructions specific to

Periodic Safety Checks
Perform the following checks every 24 months.
•
Inspect the equipment for mechanical and functional damage or deterioration.
•
Inspect the safety relevant labels for legibility. Contact Nellcor Technical Services,
1.800.635.5267, or your local representative, if labels are damaged or illegible.
•
Inspect the internal fuse (F3) for proper value and rating.
•
Ensure all user interface keys, cables, and accessories function normally.
