Functional Test with Optional Field Test Device

Note:
Only a Covidien-supplied field test device should be used with the INVOS™ system. No other field test
devices should be connected to the system. For additional information on acquiring and using a field test
device, contact Covidien’s customer service department.
The field test device allows for functional testing of the INVOS™ system. To perform a functional
test with the field test device:
1.
Place the monitor on a sturdy, flat surface and turn on the monitor from the AC power source (mains)
(see
Figure 3-1. ).

Note:
Use only hospital-grade AC mains outlets.
2.
Connect the preamplifier to the INVOS™ system monitor (see Figure 3-2. ).
3.
Connect the optional field test device to the preamplifier.
4.
Turn the mains power switch ON. Observe the illuminated blue LED on the key panel.
5.
Turn the INVOS™ system on by pressing the ON/OFF key to display the Start screen. Select NEW
PATIENT or PREVIOUS PATIENT to display the Main screen.
6.
On the Main screen, data from connected channels should appear. An rSO
2
of 50±1 should be dis-
played for all connected channels.

Troubleshooting Techniques

WARNING:
Electric shock hazard:
•
Before performing any service, turn off the unit, then disconnect the AC power (see Figure 3-1.
for location), remove the enclosure, and disconnect the battery from the DIB board.
•
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection also is required before performing any service on the
unit.
•
Make sure all cables are connected and all components are installed correctly before attempt-
ing to apply power or turn on the unit.
