Chapter 6
Communications
Overview
This chapter describes the communications between the instrument and
another communicating device such as a computer or a printer. You should
have relevant information about the devices to which the instrument will be
connected. Some connection examples are included in this manual,
however, the operation and connection of other devices is outside the scope
of this manual.
Hardware Interconnection
The instrument has three communication ports:
•
RS-232 port on the rear panel (DB9 female connector)
•
RS-485 port on the rear panel (advanced option only)
•
Infra-red port on the front panel
The appropriate interface and protocols are selected during calibration.
RS-232 Port
The RS-232 port provides communication between the instrument and one
other device such as a host computer or a printer.
Note:
A printer must have a serial port to be able to be directly connected
to the flow computer. It is not possible to communicate directly with
a printer via a parallel port.
Computers use either a DB9 or a DB25 connector, and the connections to
each type are shown in Figure 17.
